WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
If the world of beauty and styled portraits fascinates you, or if you're a photographer already working in the beauty industry looking to learn new tricks, this class is for you.
This workshop is aimed at all intermediate or beginner level photographers, including those who wish to step into the world of beauty photography for a day, and those who want to improve their already existing lighting, shooting and art direction skills.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS COURSE?
Basic knowledge of camera functions. No lighting knowledge or studio experience is needed.
HOW IS THE CLASS STRUCTURED?
LIGHTING INTRO: This class starts with an introduction to our lighting equipment and a quick recap of the main lighting rules and techniques before we get hands-on on set.
SHOOT 1: Our first shoot consist of creating the perfect minimalistic lighting setup - perfect for those who don't have access to lots of lighting gear, those who shoot on location, and those who simply feel more confident using a minimal amount of equipment.
After my initial demonstration, all attendees will have their allocated time to photograph the model in her hair/makeup.
SHOOT 2: After a relaxed lunch break, we'll kick off the afternoon with the creation of a commercial lighting setup to suit a specific brief.
Skincare campaign? Eyeshadow campaign? Hair product advertising? Whatever the brief, we have it covered!
SHOOT 3: Last but certainly not least, we'll change the lighting into a fully creative setup, perfect for editorial, personal work and for the bravest of clients. I often like to use gels at this point in the day, to show you how to use them to create striking images that your future clients will book you for.
Q/A: At the end of the shoot, we sit down for an informal Q/A session.
This is your time to ask any questions you may have, as well as network with others, get feedback on your images, or just kick back after the day's shoots.
- Topics such as styling, art direction, model direction and posing are all key in a beauty shoot, and will be covered in-depth throughout the day.
- Every lighting setup, brief and mood will be decided and crafted during the workshop and not beforehand, so all students can witness the creation process and any obstacles that may arise - and how they are overcome.
- We will be exploring key-topics such as art direction, model direction, production and lighting constantly throughout the day.
- Our team of makeup/hair will provide styling changes throughout the day to add variety to the resulting images.
WHAT WILL THIS CLASS TEACH ME?
This workshop will show you the in and outs of a high-end beauty shoot (personal, editorial and commercial).
By the end of the day, you will have learnt how a beauty shoot comes to life, who is in charge of what, best lighting setups for beauty depending on mood and purpose of the shoot, poses and angles for beauty, how to make art direction decisions and how to overcome common problems on set.
This workshop will leave you with new portfolio images, increased confidence working in a studio environment with a team of creatives, and all the technical knowledge you need to improve the look of your beauty and portrait photography work to come.
